Academic & Emotional Mentoring
A youth mentoring program that goes beyond the classroom
We provide mentors for 3rd-5th grade elementary school children during the school day, offering academic and emotional support both in class and during lunch.
Our Approach
Supporting social & academic success from every angle
By providing one-on-one emotional and academic mentoring to children in underserved communities, we give them the tools they need to believe in themselves and reach their full potential.
Academic Support
Our mentors step in during math and reading classes, providing one-on-one help so kids learn to believe in their abilities and want to do better in school.
Emotional Mentoring
Children learn how to handle stress, build resilience, and feel supported through life's ups and downs with mentors who listen and guide.
Lunchtime Connection
Support extends beyond the classroom. Our mentors provide extra guidance during lunch, building trust and deeper relationships with students.
The Challenge
Benefits that go beyond better grades
In Northern Anne Arundel County, 3rd through 5th graders face real struggles: poverty, homelessness, food insecurity. It shows in the classroom. These numbers are a call for help.
Our Solution
Mentors embedded where it matters most
Academic & Emotional Mentoring is a full-year, in-school program that embeds TCP Mentors directly into elementary math and reading classrooms to support students academically, behaviorally, and emotionally. By building consistent, trusted relationships with students, families, and the broader school community, TCP Mentors create the conditions for young people to set meaningful goals, develop social-emotional skills, and show up as their best selves while empowering parents to stay connected, engaged, and invested in their child’s school community.

Real Results
Success stories that speak for themselves
Our Academic & Emotional Mentoring program isn’t just about in-class assistance. It’s about building a foundation of confidence, emotional strength, and the belief that success is possible for everyone.
Kids gain the study skills and problem-solving techniques they need to not only do better in school, but to want to do better in school.
With our one-on-one support, kids learn to believe in their abilities, both academically and emotionally.
Through emotional mentoring, children learn how to handle stress, build resilience, and feel supported through life's ups and downs.
“The impact that they have on the kids when they walk into the classroom, everybody, every single fifth grader, is excited when a mentor walks into the room. They just respect them. They love them. You have to build relationships with kids before they get anything from you. So I think that TCP develops relationships with students and then can also guide them in the way that they need.”
