I am so happy TCP is back this year and that I get to participate again. I missed seeing you all this summer. Will you be here all year Mr. Andy, I really want you to be here all year.

Saul

5th grader at Park Elementary

As you can see by Saul’s statement, there is a lot of excitement around TCP Charity and our programs this school year, and we have a lot to share with you.

Before we get into the goings-on of TCP programs this Fall, if you haven’t seen already from our social media posts, TCP Charity is a 2022 AACPS Education Foundation Business Partner of Year Honoree. We are humbled by this honor and appreciate Glen Burnie HS and Mrs. Shirley Wais nominating us. The winner will be announced on November 29 at their annual awards/networking event. If you would like to attend, please visit https://PIE2022.givesmart.com, text PIE2022 to 76278, or contact Carol Ann McCurdy at cmccurdy@aacps.org or 410-222-5829.

Now to the fun stuff!

This Fall, we have three programs operating across Glen Burnie and Brooklyn Park that are serving a total of 47 students, ranging from 4-8th grade. Our Brooklyn Park MS and Park ES programs are after-school programs that started the first week of October, while our new Marley MS program is a before-school program that started October 18. We have another Sports & STEM program in the pipeline that will start in January and serve 20 4th-5th graders at Brooklyn Park ES. As always, we are always up to something new and taking on new opportunities to expand our impact across the county.

Brooklyn Park

In October 13, our Brooklyn Park cohort took a career exploration field trip to learn about engineering and the construction industry. What was special about this was our kids were one of only three middle school groups invited to this high school event. To make our students even more nervous, we tasked them with interviewing at least three business professionals during the event. They had to find out what college, if any, the professional went to, how important emotional intelligence is in the workplace and why, and the top 3 skills needed to be successful in the workforce. After a slight hesitation to get started, all our students came back having interviewed at least five professionals.

Marley Middle School

Our Marley MS program is off to a great start. Since it is our first program at the school, we prepared this program to serve 12 6-7th graders, and that is just what we did. To get them acclimated to TCP and their peers, we quickly pushed them out of their comfort zone by having them present a MAD Libs about themselves and creating a handshake with someone they did not know already.

We have planned some excellent career exploration activities at local Glen Burnie businesses for this cohort. On November 10, they will visit Wagner & Sons to learn about the food distribution industry. On December 1, the students will visit KG Truck & Auto, where they will learn about careers being a mechanic and in other trades.

Want to come out and visit our programs? We would love to have you! Contact TCP today to see us in action and witness your financial investment’s impact.

We need Your Support this Giving Season!!

In fashion with the TCP mottos – Find a way to get it done, and It’s all about the kids – we are turning to you this Giving Season for your help.

TCP has received incredible support and recognition over the last 6-months, enabling us to serve about 80 low-income Glen Burnie elementary school youth in the Spring and Summer. We are committed to welcoming every child that applies and will be able to do so with your support.

TCP needs to raise an additional $45,000 this year to continue our after-school programs and STEAM Camp (Science Technology Engineering Art Math). These funds will go towards hiring college and high school interns, transportation, food, and the necessary program materials.

If you’re already a current donor, please consider making another one-time contribution or increasing your monthly donation by 20% this giving season. Your investment and generosity will play a significant role in our ability to role out these new programs and serve the kids in our community who need it the most.
